The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, SDU, invites applications for a PhD position focusing on environmental data science in the context of the DFF-funded project “Marine primary production in a changing Arctic Ocean”. The proposed starting date is 1 September 2023. The hired candidate will be part of the Centre for Visual Data Science, the Data Science and Statistics Group, and Nordcee.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated student interested in designing and developing data science solutions with a strong focus on visual interfaces in an interdisciplinary project with oceanographers. The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in Computer or Data Science, and has already gained experience in collaborating with experts from oceanography or related domains. A minimum requirement is acquired experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Environmental Data Science
- Information Visualization
- Interface Design
- Big Data Analytics.
Experience in writing scientific publications is a plus, and fluency in English is required.
The position is financed by the DFF project “Marine primary production in a changing Arctic Ocean”, which will explore how ongoing environmental changes are impacting sunlight availability and photosynthesis in the Arctic Ocean. Working closely with data scientists, oceanographers, and remote sensing (satellite) specialists, the candidate will develop visual interfaces that allow handling and exploring large datasets interactively.
